Crispy Twist
Ingredients:
12 pieces frozen eggroll wrapper
1 recipe sweet and sour sauce (see below)
to taste golden syrup
to taste toasted sesame seed
Method:
- Thaw eggroll wrapper in refrigerator overnight.
- Cut each eggroll wrapper into 3 equal sized strips. Make a cut lengthwise about 1¾-inch long in the centre of each strip. Pass one end of the strip through the cut and twist both ends to form a nicely shaped bow-tie. Repeat with remaining strips.
- Deep-fry in hot oil (350°F) until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towel.
To serve:
- Savoury: With sweet and sour sauce.
- Sweet: Drizzle syrup over crispy twist, then sprinkle with toasted sesame seed, or dust crispy twist heavily with icing sugar.
Sweet and Sour Sauce
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp ketchup
5 Tbsp water
2 tsp cornstarch
4 Tbsp sugar
4 Tbsp white vinegar
1 tsp oil
Method:
Mix all ingredients together (except oil). Heat wok. Add oil and the mixed ingredients. Keep stirring until mixture boils and thickens.
