Indian-style Vegetarian Burgers


1 can (14 oz) refried beans
1/4 cup chickpea flour
1 large red onion, finely chopped
1 Tbsp ginger, finely chopped
1 green chili, finely chopped
1 tsp fenugreek leaves
1 tsp Garam Masala
1 tsp Chana Masala
1 tsp salt
2 Tbsp grapeseed oil


  1. In a large bowl combine the refried beans, chickpea flour, onion ginger, green chili, fenugreek, garam masala, chana masala, and salt. Mix gently but thoroughly to combine the ingredients. Form into 4 small patties.
  2. Heat the oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the pan, making sure they aren’t touching. Cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3 minutes.
  3. Serve on whole wheat buns with tomato, lettuce and avocado, or your choice of vegetables and condiments.

Makes 4 servings.
