Chuckles of the Day

Headstrong Young Pilot Meets Seasoned Pilot

An Air Force C-130 was flying on a mission when a cocky F-16 pilot flew up next to him.

The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, “watch this !” and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier

The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that.

The C-130 pilot said, “That was impressive, but watch this!”

The C-130 droned along for about 10 minutes, and then the C-130 pilot came back on and said “What did you think of that?”

Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, “What did you do?”

The C-130 pilot chuckled, “I stood up, stretched my legs, went to the back, relieved myself, then got a cup of coffee and a sweet roll.”

“Any other questions?”

And the moral of the story is . . .

When you are young and foolish, speed and flash may seem a good thing !

When you are older and smarter, comfort and dull is not such a bad thing !!

Listen Carefully When You Get Older

An 78 year old man went to the doctor for a physical. A few days later the doctor saw him walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm. The next time the doctor saw him he asked how he was doing.

“Great,” said the old guy. “I did just what you told me. Get a hot momma and be cheerful.”

“I didn’t say that,” said the doctor.

“I said, You’ve got a heart murmur. Be careful.”

FDA: Three At-Home COVID Tests Needed to Confirm Negative Result

People who test at home after being exposed to COVID-19 should take the test three, not two, times to make sure they’re not infected, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Thursday.

In issuing its new safety communication, the agency said the latest research suggests that taking just two antigen tests misses too many infections and could result in people inadvertently spreading the virus to others, especially if they don’t develop symptoms.

In its announcement, the agency pointed to a preliminary government study that found adding a third test improved accuracy from 62% to 79%.

“The FDA’s new recommendations for at-home COVID-19 antigen tests underscore the importance of repeat testing after a negative test result in order to increase the chances of detecting an infection,” said Dr. Jeff Shuren, director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, said in an agency news release on the recommendation.

The FDA recommended taking the three tests every 48 hours, until you have a negative test and no symptoms.

The recommendations were made after the FDA collaborated with government and academic partners to assess the performance of at-home antigen tests, Shuren said.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to learn about COVID-19 and the impact of variants on the performance of diagnostic tests designed to detect the virus, and we are committed to keeping the public updated so they can make the most informed health care decisions,” Shuren noted.

Souvlaki-style Pork Tenderloin with Mixed Vegetables

450 g pork tenderloin
2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp olive oil
450 g sweet potatoes, peeled and cut in 1/2-inch chunks
1 red onion, cut in 3/4-inch chunks
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup sodium-reduced chicken broth
2 zucchini, cut in 3/4-inch chunks
1 sweet red pepper, cut in 3/4-inch chunks
4 tsp lemon juice

Garlic Yogurt Sauce

1/3 cup 0% Greek yogurt
1 small clove garlic, minced

  1. Sprinkle pork with 1/2 tsp of the oregano and half each of the pepper and salt.
  2. In large nonstick skillet, heat half of the oil over medium-high heat and brown pork all over, about 5 minutes.
  3. Transfer to foil-lined rimmed baking sheet. Bake in 425°F oven until instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part reads 155°F or juices run clear when pork is pierced and just a hint of pink remains inside, about 12 minutes. Transfer to cutting board. Let stand for 3 minutes before slicing.
  4. In same pan, heat remaining oil over medium heat. Cook sweet potatoes, stirring, until lightly browned, about 3 minutes.
  5. Stir in red onion, garlic and remaining oregano. Cook, stirring often, until onions are slightly softened, about 2 minutes.
  6. Add broth and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer just until sweet potatoes are tender, about 6 minutes.
  7. Add zucchini, red pepper and remaining pepper and salt. Cook, stirring, until zucchini is tender, about 3 minutes.
  8. Stir in lemon juice. Transfer to platter. Add pork.
  9. Stir together yogurt and garlic, serve with pork and vegetables.

Makes 4 servings.
